All You Need To Know

Friday 19th June - Sunday 21st June 2009

The matches will be held in the main competition lake and the camping and entertainment will again be in the "team" area of on-site commercial camp site.  There will be catering provided at both the competition and camping areas and a full entertainment program on the Friday and Saturday nights in the camping area , further details will be forwarded in the next few weeks.  A bar and hot food will be available in the campsite on Friday evening and bar, hot meal and BBQ in the campsite on Saturday night.

In 2007 the tournament moved to its new "home" at the National Water Sports Centre in order to accommodate the increased number of teams that now attend the event. - Google Maps of Venue

We have made a number of changes this year to improve the facilities for participants and hopefully make the event more enjoyable for everyone concerned:

The competition area has been moved to the "other" end of the lake, so participants can now walk from the campsite to the competition area.

The competition area is adjacent to the Centre's main viewing slope so participants will have better views of the tournament matches.

The Centres own permanent catering facilities will be used to provide breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday, bar and catering during the daytime on Saturday giving participants a wider range of catering options, in addition the showers in the main centre will also be available to participants.

A larger marquee is being provided by a commercial company in order to accommodate the anticipated increase in the number of participants.

Two additional pitches are being installed in order that we can complete the anticipated 120+ matches during the competition day of the tournament.

In order to provide all of these facilities the cost of staging this year's event, as compared to 2008, has risen by more than £2,500.

In order for the event to happen more than fifty volunteers give up their time preparing for the event and making the event happen.  During the 2008 event some participants merely attended the polo element of the tournament and took no part in the social side, as a result, although there were more teams, the profits from the event were lower than in recent years.

All of the profits from the event are returned to the three Derbyshire Water Polo clubs to support the running and development of the sport in the County.

In order to address the decline in takings situation we have decided to change the pricing arrangements for this years event.   In addition to paying for camping, matches and tournament organisation the entry fee will now provide each team with tokens that can be exchanged for food and drinks at campsite during the event.

The fee for the 2009 is £270 (300 Euro), this includes the purchase of £50 of drink tokens and £40 of food tokens.

Whilst the actual entry fee has risen significantly the real cost to those teams who come and join in the social side of the event and support the efforts of the volunteers has risen by only a relatively small amount.   Upon arrival at the event each team will be provided with £40 of food tokens and £50 of drinks tokens, these tokens will only be valid in the campsite.

This small increase has been necessary as the cost of staging this year's event, as noted above, has risen by more than £2,500.

We hope that all participants will feel that (based on a team of ten players) a cost of £18 per player for two nights camping on a commercial campsite, five games and two nights disco partying with hot food and licensed bar laid on does still represent exceptionally good value.

To fit our event in to the NWSC's existing calendar of events it is necessary that we again complete all of the matches on Saturday and so, to accommodate the anticipated increased number of teams, we have arranged for additional pitches to be installed and anticipate that every team will again play at least five matches on the Saturday.

In addition to the facilities that we will be using for the tournament the NWSC has water-skiing, white Water Rafting and other water sports all available on-site with quad biking and cycling available on adjacent facilities.

Further details of the NWSC can be found at www.nationalwatersportsevents.co.uk

Entry will again be on a "first come, first served basis", with a completed entry form and associated fee being required to register a team's entry.
